Purple Ruler × Vanguard Learning Trust Ruislip High School Vyners School
Trust-wide proposal · Prepared for Vanguard Learning Trust

One shared Blueprint inclusion provision across Vanguard.

Ruislip High School is already running Purple Ruler Blueprint for 27 students. This proposal turns that proven, single-school provision into a single trust-wide hub — pooling seats across Ruislip and Vyners so every child lands in the right group, and the trust only pays for the seats it uses.

The ask in one minute · for the Head & SLT

Build on what already works at Ruislip — once, for the whole trust.

Ruislip High has spent this year proving the model: live, teacher-led lessons built on Ruislip's own schemes of work, for children who weren't accessing mainstream education. The next step isn't a new pilot — it's letting Vyners share the same provision, so groups fill, costs fall, and placement finally matches need.

Proven at Ruislip

A provision that fits the school, not the other way round.

Blueprint means Purple Ruler delivers your curriculum and your timetable online — live, by the same specialist teacher each week, for groups of up to six. It's the online version of Ruislip's own classroom, for the children who can't be in the room.

  • Core delivered across Years 8 to 11: Maths, Science and English Combined weekly — including a dedicated Year 11 GCSE group built around exam questions in Maths and English.
  • Demand has grown fast: delivery scaled from 16 lessons to 402 to 566 across the last three periods — 984 in total — as the school leaned in.
  • Quality is high when they're in the room: 149 of 154 feedback responses positive — children describe lessons as calm, focused and made for them.
  • Leaders stay in control: half-termly progress reports (praised by Ruislip), drop-in observations against our 24-point teaching rubric, and a clear safeguarding line to our DSL.
  • It's already a reference: other schools have been pointed to Ruislip to see how Blueprint runs day to day.

Attainment & assessment how progress is tracked

Year 11 lessons built around GCSE exam questions — every topic practised across many variations before the real paper.
Small-chunk testing tied to each module, with a recap week each term to lock in retention.
Half-termly progress reports to leaders, combining attendance, engagement and attainment.
Drop-in observations against the 24-point teaching rubric.

Live figures from Purple Ruler operational records for Ruislip High (delivery, ST2 feedback) and the most recent narrative progress report (attendance, shown below). Trust view currently reflects Ruislip; Vyners joins the same pooled groups. Attendance is reported per pupil each half-term — the shared model is designed to keep groups full and lift it further.

From the dashboard to the child · what leaders receive

Every child gets a narrative progress report — every half-term.

Behind every number on the dashboard is a real report for a real child — attendance subject-by-subject, curriculum coverage mapped to KS3 with ARE evidence, candid verbatim teacher observations (the good and the hard), and an overall progress narrative leaders can put straight in front of parents or panels. Below is an actual Ruislip report — pupil name redacted for data protection.

The core idea · why one shared Blueprint

Single-school groups can't be sized by need. Pooled groups can.

When one school fills its own groups, you're forced to mix very different children — EBSA, behaviour, medical, high-acuity SEND — into whatever group has space. Pooling six-seat groups across Ruislip and Vyners changes that maths entirely.

  • Groups built by need, not by which school you're in — a dedicated EBSA group, a behaviour group, a higher-acuity SEND group, KS3 and KS4 cohorts.
  • No empty seats: if Ruislip needs three seats one half-term, the other three aren't wasted — Vyners can use them, and the trust still gets full value.
  • Children move as needs change through the year, without losing their teacher or their place.
  • A better answer for parents and panels on exactly why each child was placed where they were.

The same six seats, used better

Illustrative — two half-filled single-school groups become one purposeful shared group.

A trust that pooled its provision — and made it 50–60% more cost-effective.

Last year The White Horse Federation moved to exactly this model with Purple Ruler: one trust-wide inclusion hub, seats pooled across schools, groups built by need. The result is the template for Vanguard.

Ruislip and Vyners are the two secondary schools within Vanguard Learning Trust — a six-school cross-phase trust in Hillingdon. A shared Blueprint hub across the two secondaries gives the trust one provision, one contract, one safeguarding line — and one place to see every child.

Pay for seats, not schools.

Blueprint is charged at a flat £29.17 per hour per group, regardless of how many children are in it. Pool the groups across Ruislip and Vyners and that same hourly rate now covers both schools — the per-student cost falls as seats fill, and no seat is ever wasted.

Trust total — both groups, shared across Ruislip & Vyners£875.10£6,125.70£510.48

Per-pupil figure is the half-term cost ÷ 6 at a full group — £510.48 per pupil per half-term, or about £72.93 per pupil per week for 15 hours of live core teaching (≈£4.86/hour). Fewer pupils means the per-pupil cost rises but the group cost is unchanged — which is precisely why pooling seats across both schools keeps every group full and the per-pupil price at its floor. Electives add at £29.17/hr; Compass 1:1 SEND and Distinction stretch plug in at the same rate.

How a shared Vanguard hub gets stood up.

1

Confirm the shape

Agree the starting groups by need (e.g. one shared KS3, one shared KS4) and which seats each school expects to use. Ruislip's existing set-up carries straight over.

2

Onboard Vyners onto the same provision

Vyners' schemes of work mapped in, safeguarding and data-sharing confirmed once, at trust level. Blueprint can start within five working days.

3

Pool the seats, place by need

Children from both schools placed into the group that fits them, free to move between groups as needs shift through the year.

4

One line of sight for the trust

Half-termly progress reports, attendance and engagement alerts, drop-in observations, and a single safeguarding line to our DSL — across both schools at once.

Ready to turn Ruislip's pilot into Vanguard's provision.

We can share this with the trust directly, or hand it to you to take into your Head and SLT meeting — whichever keeps it moving. A 30-minute call with SLT will cover safeguarding, curriculum fit and the starting group structure for September.
